Each and every year we have a number of parents inform us that they will be stopping lessons because their child’s school will be doing lessons for 6-10 weeks and so they do not feel the need for doing both. Our advice not just as a swimming school, but as instructors is to continue to do both and use the school swimming lessons as a bonus and not a replacement. School swimming lessons are a great addition and should definitely be encouraged but due to larger numbers in classes they cannot compare to the intensity of an after school lesson. Learning to swim takes practice and so if you can fit in more practice per week then the outcome is accelerated, thus meaning children learn to swim sooner which in turn helps to reduce the number of drownings around the country each year.
So please take the opportunity to help your children achieve their swimming goals by allowing them to continue both.
